Many songwriters come to the conclusion that very few people can imagine what a “finished” song will sound like by hearing a simple demo, and thus spend considerable time, effort and resources in producing “broadcast quality” recordings of their work. In this module we explore the recording process with the aim of enhancing production values in even the simplest presentation of a song. Using students’ own recorded compositions, we learn how classic production techniques can be used in the context of contemporary DAW-based recording, and consider the key elements of studio craft that ensure high quality results.
