LiveOnTheRoad – a new music project supporting unsigned artists…
Now that’s something we can all get on board with. We had a chat to longtime ACM employee Yasmin Mirdamad, founder of LOTR, to find out more about the project!
Introduce ‘Live on the Road’…
“LiveOnTheRoad Music is a London based live music project encouraging people to engage with all the unsigned music around them. We do this by hosting LiveOnTheRoad gigs, co-ordinating external opportunities and influencing social media channels to gather music lovers of all kinds. We work flexibly with a community of artists and bands that know we will present them with opportunities that are always in their interests. Have a look for yourself…”
Tell us about the HORIZON competition!
“The aim of HORIZON came from the understanding that bands/artists need content that can often become costly. So, HORIZON was created to assist artists/bands to get the content they need to get to the next stage of their musical careers. It is ultimately a collaborative competition working with Larkhill Studios (ACM Alumni Patch Boshell & ACM London student/artist Conan Mac) to help bring the unsigned circuit closer together.
The artists were informed that LiveOnTheRoad would remain neutral throughout the process and not promote any of the nominees individually, just the competition. It was up to the acts to promote themselves and reach out to their communities to vote for them. This is the first HORIZON competition LiveOnTheRoad has run and we are really pleased with the outcome – there will definitely be a HORIZON next June/July 2019!”
Who won and what’s the prize?
“Twelve acts put themselves forward from the LiveOnTheRoad Community. Downtown Roundabout won the HORIZON competition 2018, receiving a whopping 85 out of 251 votes! First prize is one day of recording services with an engineer at Larkhill Studios + a headline slot at LiveOnTheRoad Presents: HORIZON at the iconic Notting Hill Arts Club, London on Fri 3rd August from 7pm. The three runners up out of the total twelve nominees, were House Above the Sun (44 votes), The Alpacas (35 votes) & Black Smith (33 votes) who won support slots at the HORIZON showcase on 3rd Aug supporting Downtown Roundabout – what a night it’ll be!”
