Course overview

The Music Performance Summer School Course gives students the core skills needed to develop as confident, expressive and versatile performers.

Key components include:

Instrumental and Vocal Technique: Students build the technical foundations of performance on their chosen instrument or voice, developing control, accuracy, fluency and confidence. This includes work on tone, timing, articulation, phrasing and stylistic awareness.

Rehearsal and Ensemble Skills: The course develops the ability to rehearse effectively, work collaboratively with other musicians, and contribute meaningfully within a band or ensemble setting. Students learn how to communicate musically, respond to others in performance, and build strong group dynamics.

Performance Practice: Students explore what it means to deliver compelling live performances, including stagecraft, audience communication, preparation, professionalism and musical interpretation. They gain experience performing a range of material and developing their own artistic identity.

Musicianship and Creative Development: Alongside practical performance skills, students strengthen their listening, timing, musical awareness and overall musicianship, helping them become more adaptable and well-rounded performers.

This course acts as a progression route into ACM’s full-time performance-based programmes:

Advanced Development: Full-time courses allow students to go further in their technical, creative and artistic development, with more intensive training, broader performance opportunities and deeper exploration of style and specialism.

Industry Connections: Students benefit from ACM’s connections with working musicians, industry professionals and live performance networks, opening up opportunities for collaboration, insight and progression.

Portfolio and Experience Building: Full-time study gives students the chance to build a strong performance profile through live work, collaborative projects and recorded outputs, helping them prepare for further study or a career in music.
