ACM Governance Structure

ACM operates a unitary governing model in which ultimate authority sits with the Governing Body. The Governing Body is responsible for institutional strategy, financial sustainability, regulatory compliance (including alignment with the Office for Students framework and public interest governance principles), and the protection of student interests. It sets the overall direction of the provider and retains oversight of risk, performance, and long-term viability.

To ensure effective delivery, the Governing Body formally delegates operational authority to two executive committees, creating separation between corporate/operational management and academic governance:

• The Executive Board holds delegated authority for day-to-day management, including operations, estates, finance, IT, marketing, recruitment, and commercial activity (including Metropolis Studios). It is accountable for delivering the institutional strategy set by the Governing Body and managing institutional performance.
• The Academic Board is the senior academic authority, with delegated responsibility for academic standards, quality assurance, curriculum, assessment, research and knowledge exchange, and the broader student experience. It ensures that ACM meets sector expectations and that academic decision-making remains appropriately independent, while still aligned to institutional strategy. This dual-committee structure ensures clear separation of academic authority from executive management, while maintaining accountability back to the Governing Body.
