A brand new category and music competition!

Surrey’s leading independent travel agent Haslemere Travel has once again joined together with the county’s largest voluntary youth organisation representative Surrey Youth Focus to launch Surrey Young Superstars Awards 2016 – which will this year feature a new Community Superstar category and a competition to find a talented Surrey young musician.

Now in their fourth year, the annual Surrey Young Superstars awards – which are run on a not-for-profit basis and are free to enter – will reward and showcase young people’s efforts in the county and honour them for their hard work and achievements.

New for 2016, the Community Superstar category will specifically reward an individual or group who have gone the extra mile to make a significant difference to their local community.

And for the first time, a bespoke Surrey Young Superstars competition for young musicians has been launched jointly with Guildford’s Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) this year. Judged by the ACM, the winning student will perform live at the special Surrey Young Superstars awards ceremony at the Guildford Harbour Hotel on the afternoon of Sunday, May 8th 2016.

This year the Surrey Young Superstars awards – to be presented by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More-Molyneux – is generously sponsored by the Guildford office of international real estate adviser Savills, the Guildford Harbour Hotel and Surrey Life.

Open to all young people in Surrey aged between 5-19 years old, nomination forms and entry criteria can be found at www.haslemeretravel.co.uk or www.surreyyouthfocus.org.uk.

The 2016 award categories are: Caring Superstar; Courageous Superstar; Community Superstar; Individual/Group Fundraising Superstar (5-12 years); Individual/Group Fundraising Superstar (13-19 years); Volunteering Superstar

The overall winner of the top award, Superstar of the Year, will also receive an ‘Adopt An Animal’ prize from the Surrey Wildlife Trust.

The awards also seek to raise the profile of a local charity, which this year is Leatherhead-based Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

“Now in their fourth year, we remain extremely proud of the Surrey Young Superstars awards and its past worthy winners. I am looking forward to hearing more about what selfless, talented and enthusiastic young people in our beautiful county have achieved over this past year.

“We are extremely grateful to our generous sponsors, Savills Guildford and Guildford Harbour Hotel and our media partner Surrey Life, all of whom help to make this rewarding event possible.”
