Here at ACM, we’re pleased to announce that we’ve partnered with music events company, Acoustic Live UK, for a month-long Shoreditch Boxpark live music takeover this January… and the whole thing was an ACM London student’s idea!

JayanaNineteen year old Commercial Songwriting student, Jayana Akar, has been working as a Live Engineer at Acoustic Live UK and approached them about collaborating with ACM for a live music takeover, with ACM London students providing the sounds. Jayana said: “I started working with Acoustic Live UK whilst doing my A-levels and soon began to develop a great relationship with the team. They were very open to new ideas, and they’ve provided a platform for great artists who’ve gone on to do amazingly well; the likes of Little Simz, JP Cooper, Sonna Rele… and loads more. Not to forget that Boxpark is such a cool place to perform at! So when I got into ACM, I was keen to give other students one-off slots to perform, but soon after I thought, why not have a whole month where students from all courses can experience working in the live field; live sound, stage management, social media and, of course, performance. So I was put in contact with Ace (ACM’s Head of Creative Industry Development) and it all went from there! I’ll be very excited to hear back from ACM students on their experience and to see how the crowd reacts to the amazing talent we have at ACM.”

The first performances took place on 8th January and the rest are set to continue every Sunday throughout January. ACM acts Raffer, Cee and the Sirens, Yana Toma and Molly Mckinna were the first to grace the line-up of this unique event.

ACM’s ‘learning by doing’ ethos is at the core of our values, and Jayana’s practical ideas and proactive approach lie right at the heart of this philosophy.

The Acoustic Live UK team were thrilled with Jayana’s partnership suggestions and instantly jumped on board: “We’re very pleased to be working with ACM and the next generation of musicians, providing a platform for the month to have these artists showcase and hone their talents!”

“We’re so pleased to put on these exclusive events in partnership with Acoustic Live UK. We’re also immensely proud of our student Jayana for coming up with the idea, showing her true entrepreneurial spirit. I’m really looking forward to seeing all the amazing ACM talent taking over the Boxpark throughout January.”
Ace, Head of Creative Industry Development, ACM
