Sessional Tutor in Game Art – ACM London

Role:             Sessional Tutor in Game Art

Reports to: Programme Manager


ACM in partnership with Falmouth University are looking for an excellent games art sessional tutor to join the teaching team. The BA Game Development has a unique multi-disciplinary approach to teaching games which aims to simulate a studio environment. One of these routes is the Art route, but the course is fundamentally about the process of game development.  The ideal candidate has experience working in the games industry as an artist, with experience of creating 3D assets, and a strong desire to share practice and methods with students. They will be versatile, and able to contribute to a teaching team which spans several different disciplines, encompassing both academics and games industry professionals.

The successful candidate will support and assess students in the building of game projects, as well as teaching specialist skills and art fundamentals including life drawing classes. This is a sessional role at present, but it has potential to grow into something more substantial.  


  • To lead on the teaching and assessment objectives of ACM through high-quality classroom delivery and innovative assessment
  • To develop and manage teaching materials, resources and module content for delivery across ACM
  • To supervise student projects, field trips and, where appropriate, placements
  • To use the VLE as an effective tool to continue to develop and grow the reach of education at ACM


  • Appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances
  • Refer students as appropriate to services providing further support
  • Participate in faculty meetings
  • Understand ACM’s mission, aim and values and to translate those through the development of an industry connected curriculum
  • Be involved in student recruitment activities such as open-days and applicant days.


Person Specification


An undergraduate qualification in a related subjectX 
Postgraduate qualification in a subject specialism or equivalent experience X
A passion for game studies and surrounding cultural theories and discussions of games X
High quality portfolio demonstrating varied abilities in Game Art


Experience working as a technical artist in a games context


Some experience of importing art assets into a game engine X
Good 3D Modelling skills using MayaX 
Digital Painting & Photoshop experienceX 
Familiarity with traditional art skills (drawing, figurative etc.)X 
Good understanding of Animation in the context of 3d games X
Knowledge of Unity and Unreal Game Engines X
A teaching qualification in Adult / Higher Education or Senior Higher Education Academy Fellowship, or a commitment to undertake qualification whilst in post X
Awareness of the current issues impacting Higher/Further Education and the role that teaching plays X
Experience of supporting undergraduate students X
Experience of curriculum design and development X
Excellent IT skills and knowledgeX 
Excellent oral and written communication skillsX

This job purpose reflects the core activities of the post.
