Frequently asked questions regarding our Saturday Courses.

Part Time

Do you offer discounts for siblings?

Absolutely! We are pleased to offer an amazing 25% discount to all siblings enrolling from the same family, for the same Term.

The same 25% discount applies to any one student (no siblings required) wishing to enrol on more than one part time course. The discount will apply to all courses over and above the first.

A staggering 50% discount can be claimed on any part time course by a full time student already studying at ACM. So, if you love learning as much as we love teaching, we’ve got your back.

Can I start the course after its official start date?

Yes, of course you can. We understand that music waits for no-one, so we’re open to you starting at a time that suits you.

That said, we’d like to remind you that we are unable to offer pro-rata fees (discounts for late entry), so regardless of when you choose to join us, the full fee will still apply.

Can I have a taster session?

Sure. We recommend it best to do this right at the beginning of Term. That way, you have plenty of time to make the right decisions.

In actual fact, Tasters can be arranged at any time during the Term, with the exception of weeks 9 and 10.

What’s the difference between Band Skills and Band Academy?

Aside from the spelling, Band Skills are shorter sessions than Band Academy, with a maximum duration of either 1.5 or 2 hours, whereas Band Academy sessions last for 3 hours.

The aim of Band Skills is simply to pull together a live performance for the public, whilst Band Academy is a bit more in depth. With Band Academy, you will be able to choose your own repertoire from a pool of songs offered by us. You will then be allocated some unsupervised time to put your band and communication skills into practice.

Band Academy also offers more technical advice along the way when compared with Band Skills.

What equipment do I need to bring?

Guitarists: Guitar | Strap | Tuner | Lead | Pen

Bassists: Bass Guitar | Strap | Tuner | Lead | Pen

Drummers: Sticks | Headphones | Pen

Vocalists: Pen | Water (Sports Top)

Can I switch to another course?

You can switch to any other instrument – or course – at any time.

Just as a heads up, there may be a slight difference in price if you do, so remember to check first.

What’s the average age range?

Band Skills: 12 – 13

Band Academy: 16-18

Studio Recording and Home Recording: Mixed, 12+

Songwriting: 18+ (open to 16+)

Do you provide accommodation? (Summer School)

Unfortunately we don’t have our own accommodation on offer, however, there is plenty of accommodation available nearby so get in touch with our Accommodation Team using

…but if we did have our own, it would have the world’s biggest water slide, the finest cotton towels, gold plated soap dispensers and a personal butler. Thinking about it, it’s probably best we stick to what we know best.

Do I have to practice?

Yes! As the saying goes – ‘a practice a day keeps the ACM Tutor away’.

In all seriousness though, you should aim to practice every day wherever possible; a little practice every day is better than one long session each week.

How many people are in each class?

Classes tend to vary in size but there will be no more than 16 in each Performance class and 20 in Music Production classes.

What happens if I miss a week?

We understand that you may have to miss the odd week for various reasons, and we promise that we will do our best to help you catch up when you return.

We only ask that you let us know, for our records.

We’ll be on the lookout for emails, phone calls, wizard owls or any other delivery bird of your preference.

What are the Term dates?

Exact Term dates will be made available on the ACM website in due course.

As a point of reference, our Terms run from January, May and September.

I attended the previous term, do I need to re-submit a new application?

Yes, after the ten weeks are up, you will need to re-enrol via the website and online payment system.

Does this provide me with a qualification / UCAS points?

There are no qualifications associated with part-time courses.

These are vocational, fun-learning courses with no affiliation to UCAS.

How does the same course vary each Term?

We rotate songs and activities for every Performance class each term, meaning you can study for one to two years at any level and continue to enjoy fresh new content.
