The ACM Songwriting Competition 2011 saw some of the Academy’s brightest stars take to the stage and perform original material in front of a capacity audience at Guildford’s leading creative arts venue, The Boileroom.

There were performances of songs on the night by George Peploe, Charlotte Olivia, Tommy Monroe, Josh Edwards, Grainne O, Martha Paton, Moteh Parrott, Karina Vismara, Hannah Perrin, Gary Kingham (Mellor) and also a DJ set from Zomboy.

Winning the competition was ACM degree student Karina Vismara, with a song entitled ‘Only You’ which fought off hundreds of other entries to claim the prize. Chosen by Warner Chappell Music, Karina netted £500 of Andertons music store vouchers.

“The final 10 songs were all of high quality, but there were 3 or 4 of true potential. It was unfortunate only one writer could win, but as a competition it certainly helped highlight the talent pool the ACM have amassed & developed.”
