PURPOSE

The Quality Assurance and Enhancement Officer will report to the Director of Policy and Governance and will provide support for the quality assurance and enhancement processes that underpin the ACM student experience. You will work across the organisation supporting the development and review of student-facing policies and processes. You will also work with specific collaborative partners to support the provision of quality assurance and enhancement information to processes external to ACM. The post-holder is required to manage multiple activities simultaneously and use high levels of initiative and judgement to deliver a diverse workload effectively. The Quality and Enhancement Officer will be part of a small team in ACM supporting quality, student engagement and feedback, collaborative partnerships, and new policy projects, therefore this position provides opportunities to gain a wide range of experiences to support future careers

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and administer quality assurance systems, reports, performance indicators and the annual quality cycle.
  • Coordinate requirements and requests for external accreditation, centre approval and quality standard marks, including leading the preparation for external visits and the coordination and tracking of action planning and reporting processes as follow-up.
  • To manage the ACM survey plan and coordinate all cross-institutional student surveys, including data collection and data analysis and reporting.
  • Maintain and manage the schedule of academic policy review in liaison with policy leads and committees.
  • Maintain the web-based compendium of student policies and processes and ensure information related to versioning protocols are correctly applied.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of policies and approaches to quality assurance and the maintenance of academic standards (particularly in relation to professional body and partner institution expectations) and ensure that staff and students are provided with accurate and accessible information as appropriate.
  • To oversee the External Examining and Standards Verification processes, in accordance with awarding body requirements.
  • Collate information for annual reporting to academic board, external collaborative partners and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide quality support during the development and review of programmes and courses, acting as the institutional liaison for validating partners and awarding bodies for the arrangements for approval and review events, and managing the coordination and tracking of action planning and reporting processes as follow-up.
  • Prepare monitoring reports for Academic Board and other committees to inform decision making.
  • Support the recording, monitoring and follow-up of completion of conditions and recommendations arising from Annual and Periodic Review events and support reporting to relevant committees.
  • Undertake periodic checks of published information relating to policies and processes to address any inaccurate information, highlighting any risks arising to the Director of Policy and Governance.
  • Alongside other staff review published information on ACM’s programmes to ensure that programme descriptions are accurate and in accordance with ACM policies and management of student expectations.
  • Contribute to the production of the annual report to the Office for Students on Prevent-related matters.
  • Support the management of responses to Freedom of Information requests received by ACM.
  • Support key projects within the Quality, Governance and Policy Team
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of service delivery, processes and practices.
  • Assist other departments within across ACM during peak times.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • An undergraduate qualification or relevant professional experience, with a high level of literacy.
  • Experience of supporting higher education quality assurance processes
  • Experience of managing or developing policies in higher education
  • Evidence of strong analytical skills and the ability to propose potential solutions to regulatory or logistical problems
  • The ability to prepare and maintain documentation and standard reports for internal and external bodies
  • An understanding of the role of policies and processes in the quality assurance of Higher Education
  • Willingness and flexibility to work according to the needs of the service, for example, working across the organisation and on ad hoc projects

Desirable

  • Understanding of higher education policy areas including Prevent, Freedom of Information, Freedom of Speech
  • Understanding of External Examining and Standards Verification processes
  • Experience of working with external organisations and/or collaborative partners in a higher education context
  • An understanding of the role of the Office for Students (OfS) as the Regulator for Higher Education
  • Understanding and awareness of the needs of a diverse student body.

This job purpose reflects the core activities of the post. As the Department and the post-holder develop, there will inevitable be some changes to the duties for which the post is responsible, and possible to the emphasis of the post itself. ACM expects that the post-holder will recognise this and will adopt a flexible approach to work. This could include undertaking relevant training where necessary. Should significant changed to the job purpose become necessary, the post-holder will be consulted, and the changes reflected in a revised job purpose.
