Centre Manager

Salary range: £40,000 - £45,000

ACM is a specialist music education provider based in Guildford, with approximately 2,200 students on a range of FE and HE programmes in Music Performance, Creative Artist, Production, Technical Services and Business. To maintain the overall smooth running and performance of the academy.


Centre Operations

  • Make sure all facilities and equipment, both office and classroom are in constant working order
  • Responsible for facilities management including parking
  • Support and attend ACM open days, ensuring the facilities are presentation-ready
  • Manage equipment inventory system for all office and classroom equipment
  • Maintain up-to-date files on all contractors
  • Provide support in the development of materials such as campus guides.
  • Ensure any facilities issues are RAG rated and reported to the group facilities team


  • Ensure all classes are staffed and tutors are prepared in the correct manner
  • Management of all teaching and support staff
  • Responsible for logging and covering holidays and sickness on HRIS/ACM systems
  • Source, track and report all instances of tutor cover, including updating timesheets on HRIS/ACM systems
  • Administer arrangement of teaching cover payment for sessional tutors.
  • Working closely with all Birmingham Campus Course Leads on a day to day basis
  • Escalate any extraordinary sessional costs, outside of timetabled teaching, to the Head of Education for approval


  • Complete HE timetables and oversee FE timetables with the respective Course Leaders
  • Responsible for budget management
  • Ensure all invoices are raised as POs and escalated to finance
  • Responsible for recruitment of support staff
  • Supporting education teams in the recruitment of academic staff

Student Engagement

  • Arrange Course Transfers in consultation with Group Student Engagement Manager (involving setting up audition for new pathway where appropriate).
  • Assist the Head of Education in managing Early Resolution Stage Academic Appeals, Complaints, Disciplinary or Academic Misconduct meetings in consultation with the Student Engagement Manager or Group Quality representative
  • Work with the Head of Education and other key stakeholders on the student induction process for specific campus including designing the schedule of activities and arranging fresher events and external speakers.

Health & Safety

  • Be safeguarding Lead for the centre and attend training for this as required
  • Be responsible for all student services for the centre
  • Have overall responsibility for the health and safety within the centre
  • Ensure that students are aware of the Health and Safety policies and procedures for specific campus.



  •  Participate in ACM Open Days, Graduation and Tutor Training days.
  • Help nurture a positive and engaged campus community, with students and staff.
  • Prioritise own workload within agreed objectives to ensure all activities are completed in a timely manner.
  • Understand ACM’s mission, aim and values and to translate those through the delivery of an industry connected curriculum.
  • Have a thorough understanding of ACM policies and ensure these are followed by all centre staff




  • Have a clear understanding of ACM’s strategic aims and objectives and cultural direction
  • Outstanding organisational and reporting skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels within organisation and externally
  • Excellent IT skills to support the administrative requirements of the role
  • Good decision making, leadership and delegation skills
  • Used to working on own initiative, flexibly and prioritising effectively
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player in a teaching, learning and research environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to provide academic leadership for the staff including : diplomacy, persuasiveness, ability to influence, inspire and engage constructively
  • Ability to be innovative, flexible and outward looking in terms of organisational development and change
  • Ability to manage a number of competing demands effectively


  • Awareness of current educational policy as it applies to teaching, learning assessment and quality

This job purpose reflects the core activities of the post. As the Academy and the post-holder develop, there will inevitably be some changes to the duties for which the post is responsible, and possibly to the emphasis of the post itself. ACM expects that the post-holder will recognise this and will adopt a flexible approach to work.  This could include undertaking relevant training where necessary.  Should significant changes to the job purpose become necessary, the post-holder will be consulted and the changes reflected in a revised job purpose.
