The Finance Department is responsible for the accounting of 8 statutory entities within the group, as well as some standalone entities. In addition to accounting, finance is also responsible for company secretarial duties, contracts and insurance. The statutory entity that provides education services, is registered with the Office for Students, for which there are specific regulatory reporting requirements.
The finance team work closely with the business to ensure full understanding of the ever-changing landscape to enable relevant and reliable forecasting and scenario modelling to support business decision making.
The Finance team is comprised of 3 qualified accountants and 4 finance clerks. Given the size of the department and the diverse nature of the group the work will be very hands-on and varied.
- Production of monthly management accounts (individual companies and group) with variance analysis and commentary.
- Revenue accounting and student number reconciliations.
- Support the forecasting and budgeting process, including forecasting for the OfS annual return.
- OfS annual return and monitoring expenditure against the Access and Participation Plan.
- Ensure group VAT return is accurate and timely; on-going monitoring that correct processes are in place.
- Maintaining contract tracker, and ensuring contracts are kept up to date.
- Year end audit work including producing statutory accounts and liaison with the auditors.
- Review of corporation tax computations.
- Support other departments with their requests as appropriate.
- Other statutory returns.
- Production of ad hoc reports and analysis.
We are looking for a qualified accountant with at least 5 years post qualified experience.
Strong technical and analytical accounting skills.
Ability to produce accurate work and consistently deliver to reporting deadlines.
Ability to compile and present financial information clearly and concisely.
Ability to quickly build relationships with internal and external contracts at all levels with confidence.

As the Department and the post-holder develop, there will inevitably be some changes to the duties for which the post is responsible, and possibly to the emphasis of the post itself. ACM expects that the post-holder will recognise this and will adopt a flexible approach to work. This could include undertaking relevant training where necessary.
