Front of House & Café Bar Manager – Electric Theatre Guildford

Role: Front of House & Café Bar Manager
Reports To: Theatre Operations Manager
Responsible For: Café Bar Staff, Casual Duty Managers, FoH Volunteer Ushers
Salary: £21,000 – £23,000pa Dependent on experience
Hours: 40hrs p/w over 5 days. Generally, hours will be 4x shifts 3-11pm and 1x shift 10-6pm. However, flexibility is essential.

Role Purpose:

The Electric Theatre are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and personable Front of House and Cafe Bar Manager. To provide a high-quality customer experience to all visitors and to take responsibility for the management of the theatre and staff on evenings and weekends.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the smooth day to day running of FOH operations.
  • Responsible for the health and safety of all Front of House areas, including the health and hygiene of the cafe bar kitchen.
  • To take the lead operational responsibility for the security of the building at evenings and weekends, ensuring that The Electric Theatre procedures are carried out diligently.
  • To act as Duty Manager for a minimum of 4 evenings per week including weekends.
  • To ensure there is an efficient and informative handover to casual duty management prior to each show where required.
  • To effectively train Volunteer Ushers, Casual Duty Managers and Cafe Bar Staff to carry out their roles safely, efficiently and with a strong focus on customer service.
  • To produce and distribute daily event reports to Management and ACM Executive.
  • To act as a key holder.
  • To identify opportunities for business development, both with a focus on sales potential and procedural efficiency. To assist in increasing the profile of The Electric Theatre as a vibrant arts venue.
  • To carry out regular building checks and ensure all spaces internal and external are maintained to standard.
  • Working with the Theatre Operations Manager to recruit and train, line manage and rota bar staff, volunteers and ushers.
  • To act as a first aider (training to be given if necessary).
  • Take responsibility for cashing up and all associated financial procedures. Including petty cash, change floats, bar till, ice creams etc.
  • Act as the face of the theatre for all visitors and audiences during show times.
  • To handle complaints and problem solve on shift.
  • Lead operational activities for front-of-house during show times, coordinating with rest of team (including duty technicians, stage managers, to ensure smooth and seamless running of performances.)
  • Ensure evacuation procedures are up to date and maintained, drills executed in a timely fashion and recorded.
  • Responsible for stock checks and ordering of all wet and dry stock, including disposables and chemicals.

An undergraduate qualification in a related subject

Excellent oral and written communication skills

A background in the arts, preferably within a theatre environment.

Previous experience in Hospitality in a management role

Commercial events management experience

Experience of Theatre Management

This job purpose reflects the core activities of the post. As the Department and the post-holder develop, there will inevitably be some changes to the duties for which the post is responsible, and possibly to the emphasis of the post itself. ACM expects that the post-holder will recognise this and will adopt a flexible approach to work. This could include undertaking relevant training where necessary. Should significant changes to the job purpose become necessary, the post-holder will be consulted and the changes reflected in a revised job purpose.
