Studying on a Diploma course at ACM gives you a solid foundation to move onto a Degree programme with us, or elsewhere should you wish to move away from music.

We caught up with Vocal Diploma alumna and current Vocal Degree student Mica Bernard to get her thoughts on her ACM education so far, and her advice to students thinking about studying a Degree at ACM…

ACM NEW STUDIO OPENING / RODBORO BUILDINGS / Shot by Rob BlackhamHow did the Vocal Diploma help prepare you for the Vocal Degree course here?

“It was great in getting me used to performing in front of other musicians, it really developed my theory knowledge and prepared me for the degree – getting me in the right mindset so I can get the most out of it.”

What new skills have you learnt since joining the Degree programme?

“My vocal technique has developed massively since being on the Degree, my communication and organisation skills have really been tested and as a result have been made stronger by working within ACM’s network.

What were the stand-out moments on the Diploma course for you and what have been your favourite moments of the Degree so far?

The tutors at ACM are amazing – Aly Duff, John Duff, Mike Goodman, Abbie Evans and Erika Footman were outstanding tutors during my time on Diploma. Adam Pain, Kaya Carney, Becky Morton and Toby Drummond have been amazing on the Degree course and have been fantastic in helping me on my musical journey.”

How and why did you decide to come and study at ACM?

“I chose ACM because of its reputation at the time following its BBC documentary and also it was local to me and London.”

What would your advice be to students looking to study music at degree level?

“Make sure you are willing to work hard and search for what is going to be helpful because at Degree level it is all about what you put in if you want to succeed – make the most out of every situation and opportunity!”

What are your career aspirations for the future?

“I am an Indie Folk/Reggae artist and I want to continue gigging with my band and share my music across the world. I also enjoy collaborating with other musicians and artists so would like to continue doing this as much as possible.”
