Study Block 2 – 20 Credits

The aim of the module is to provide learners with an essential knowledge of music notation that informs the performance of ‘real world’ charts as found in a variety of professional settings. The module content will offer insight into the execution and interpretation of written parts through the study of essential aspects of harmonic and rhythmic notation within contemporary popular music. Ultimately, this module aims to empower the learner to read notation accurately and interpret the less prescriptive elements of charts in ways that are widely acceptable within industry.

You will be expected to apply a strategic approach to the practice and research elements of Chart Reading and demonstrate effective time management. The module predominantly comprises self-directed study; lectures will be supported by tutorials and group sessions.
