Box Hill School has become the first school in the UK to open an official Academy of Contemporary Music franchise within its own music department.
Every Saturday the school’s brand new music block will be transformed into an ACM centre, where aspiring musicians can learn modern music skills from industry experts.
“Music encourages teamwork, inspires confidence and nurtures respect for others. It really is a skill for life.
ACM understands and shares our passion, so we could not ask for a better partner in inspiring our students to develop their musical ability.
We know our students will approach the classes with their usual ‘have a go’ ethos and we can’t wait to see the talent that emerges.”
Mark Eagers Headmaster at Box Hill School
The project, ACM @ Box Hill School, offers a host of extra-curricular music activities, including ACM Junior for ages seven to 12, ACM XL for ages 12 to 16, and ACM Band academy featuring full-band tuition.
For those who want to sing, the school will soon be adding ACM Choir to the programme, where students can perform contemporary rock and pop songs as part of a group.
“This project is about making music exciting and accessible, by losing the formality and offering an environment in which creativity can flourish.
It is the first scheme of its kind in the in the UK, so we’re very excited and passionate about it. Box Hill School could even blaze the trail for similar schemes in schools across the country.”
James Connell Operations Manager at ACM Commercial
The school believes the scheme launching on Saturday, 29th September, will make the very most of the new resources introduced as part of a recent £1.5m investment in its music department.
Anyone aged 7 to 16 are welcome to join the Saturday classes, or book a tour of the department to view the facilities and to find out more about the courses.
Viewing times can be arranged by calling Sue at Box Hill School on 01372 377812.
