Tilly Valentine

British artist Tilly Valentine is set to release her debut single ‘Coins’ in collaboration with online German SoundCloud producer, Mattis.

Born and raised in Oxfordshire, Valentine moved to London aged 16 where she attended the prestigious BRIT School. It was there that she occupied the unfamiliar feeling of living independently by writing with producers over SoundCloud. After finding Mattis’ music online, she began collaborating with the young German producer as they sent each other voice notes, beats and ideas from across the globe. Aged 17, she wrote a song which unknowingly would become her debut single.

The young artist sings proudly in her home-grown accent, and although Valentine’s vocal background is predominately jazz influenced, her forthcoming single ‘Coins’ has been flipped on its head. Being recognised for her playful and conversational lyrics, the official music video (out on 27th July) highlights the song’s meaning; “It’s easy to get caught up with materialistic things and think that what you do or don’t have defines your worth. My concept for the video was to represent resisting the temptations and not losing sight of what’s really important.”

The combination of poetic and tongue-in-cheek phrases are complimented by minimalistic trip hop production that has soothed the ears of many tastemakers. The support from BBC Introducing has not gone unnoticed; having had her earlier demos chosen as track of the week to performing at the O2 Academy Oxford. The unsigned artist recently graduated from The Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford.

The SoundCloud collaboration became a reality when Valentine recently flew out to Germany for the first time to work with Mattis in person, having collaborated online for four years. Since then, the official single has been recorded and mastered in London’s Metropolis Studios and is available to pre-order from 29th June 2018.
