Singer / Songwriter
Sam McKenna is a young British singer-songwriter and musician. Born in East London, now located on the south coast. Her music is principally acoustic and composed using a simple, stripped-back style.
Her songwriting is vibrant and colourful with an intimacy in her lyrics that is both distinctive and memorable.
In recent years she has studied at the Academy of Contemporary Music and Metropolis Studios developing her self-penned songs into a powerful set and an album of original music is due for release.
As a singer-songwriter and producer she has experimented in many genres – originally a classically trained guitarist she now has influences as diverse as Tracy Chapman, Joan Armatrading, the Beatles and Ed Sheeran all referenced in her ‘sound’.
She takes inspiration from all around – her friends, family and life as it surrounds her everyday.
Her songwriting, although very personal, is also well grounded and accessible to her listeners. The songs are about life, love, truth and struggle – listeners connect, see, feel and relate their own experiences and emotions through Sam McKenna’s lyrics and music.
In October 2015, Sam made her radio debut with her song Highway. It was aired on BBC Surrey and Sussex as BBC Introducing’s track of the day
