Vocal Tutors
Jono McNeil, Becky Morton, Sarah Geary, Katie Hector, Aly Duff, Joshua Alamu, Chris Johnson, Becky McCracken and Charlie Rinks are some of the vocal tutors available to students on the full time and part time vocal courses here at ACM.

Becky Morton - Senior Lecturer
Becky has sung in a professional capacity for the past 10 years. During this time she has worked with numerous artists including; Alexander O’Neil, Crispian Mills (Kula Shaker, The Jeevas), Imogen Heap, Shae Seger, Cosmic Rough Riders and Mattafix. Becky has also toured the UK and Japan with top selling Japanese artist Hitomi Yaida (Yaiko). She is also a regular session singer for various dance labels including EMI and The Ministry of Sound as well as being a Vocal Tutor at ACM. Katie Hector - Lecturer
Katie Hector has been a professional singer for over a decade working in many capacities from live work to studio. Predominantly a soul singer, she has worked with artists such as Jocelyn Brown, Roy Ayers, Kenny Thomas, Reel People, Leon Ware, members of Incognito and Jamiroquai and many more. She performs as an artist in her own right within this style under the name Katie Leone. Outside of the soul scene she has toured with Lou Reed, featured on many dance releases on Ministry Of Sound, recorded for major labels Sony, BMG, Decca and Universal as a session vocalist, appeared on television and radio, supported KT Tunstall, Sister Sledge and Peter Cox. She has also taught masterclasses in the UK and abroad and has extensive performing experience in the corporate world including performing globally from Barcelona to Bali.
Joshua Alamu - Lecturer
Joshua has worked with critically acclaimed artists such as The Band With No Name, West Life, Will Young, Beverly Knight, 911, Daniel Bedingfield, All Saints and Joss Stone to name but a few. Joshua has also firmly cemented a name for himself as one of London’s most sought after vocal coaches. Joshua has worked on the hugely popular Pop Idol for ITV and been vocal coach to TV shows such as BBC’s 'Just The Two of Us', Channel 4’s ‘Musicool’ for T4, BBC One’s ‘DanceX’ and more recently Channel 5’s ‘Don’t Stop Believing’. He has also appeared as guest vocal coach on shows such as, ‘Trinny and Susannah Undress The Nation’ and ‘Blue Peter’. Joshua has worked with The London Community Gospel Choir and assisted numerous choirs and groups both in the UK and in the USA.
He is passionate, dedicated and down to earth! No job is ever too big or too small for Joshua. All that matters is the voice, the music and the heart.
Chris Johnson - Lecturer
Chris has been performing non-stop in all kinds of genres and arrangements since 1998. From Indie and acoustic RnB to chorus and harmony quartets, he has also had a lot of success as a lead vocalist and over his career has had the pleasure of supporting Lemar, Heatwave, Alexander O’Neal, The Drifters and Peter Andre in some of the UKs most prestigious venues. Aside from a busy performance diary, Chris currently coaches a wide base of students in the South ranging from Pop, Rock, Soul, Opera and Classical. Keeping one foot on the stage as well as one in the teaching room gives Chris the ability to progress his students development on many levels and help any level of singer achieve their goals in music.
Jono McNeil - Fellow of ACM
Jono McNeil began his music career in the Australian music scene, performing both as a session vocalist and original artist for nearly 10 years in a variety of different settings. After hailing from the renowned Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) with a degree in jazz and a post grad in contemporary music, he made his first appearance on the scene as vocal front man for the funk/acid jazz band, ‘The Jive Express’ in which he toured regularly and recorded 2 albums. From there he worked as a vocalist for award winning jazz big bands, funk/soul bands, pop bands, drum ‘n’ bass collectives, house acts, art orchestras and sung in countless recording sessions throughout the country.Featuring on many albums, Jono then signed to an Australian label and went on to release and tour his debut solo album, ‘Places’ in 2008, which showcases his diverse range of musical influences and experiences.
Now living in the UK, he has worked with a variety of exciting artists including Nelly, Lemar, Leon Ware, Jocelyn Brown, The Reel People, The Layabouts, Imaani (Incognito) and many more. He continues to work as a session vocalist for some of Europe’s most exciting producers and artists, performs regularly in the London circuit and is the vocal coach of choice for a large professional clientele at his North London studio.
Sarah Geary - Senior Lecturer
Sarah has been a professional musician for the last 15 years. She has extensive experience in touring at stadium level and many festivals including The Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.Her musical credits include working alongside Paul Young, Edwin Starr, Hot Chocolate, Bonnie Tyler, Crowded House and James Blunt. She has worked with Ex-’Smokie’ Chris Norman on backing vocals for 6 years and is currently working for Shakin’ Stevens.
She has been involved with the Academy since 2000 and is a vocal tutor on the full- time program. She also fronts an 8 piece Motown/Soul band The Tamla Tigers.
Aly Duff - Lecturer
Aly has extensive live performance and teaching experience in theatre, music and dance. Her main area of expertise is in performance skills and choreography. As well as being a vocal tutor at ACM she is also responsible for teaching Live Performance Workshops and runs ACM’s movement and stagecraft workshops. She has toured mostly in the UK and Europe as a dancer and singer in a variety of shows.
Charlie Rinks - Lecturer
Charlie Rinks is a singer, songwriter with extensive performance experience, having worked as a professional singer and vocal tutor/coach for the past 5 years. She studied a degree in Jazz music at Exeter University as well as Contemporary Vocal Performance and Performing Arts at ACM and The Guildford School of Acting respectively.
Charlie’s performing credits include vocalist for the girl band ‘The Sapphires whose single ‘Baby It’s You’ appeared on the worldwide advertising campaign for Peroni beer. She was also lead vocalist for cabaret acts, The It Girls and The Cabaret Kittens performing in numerous venues including Madame Tussauds, The Playrooms and The Kings Head in London.
Charlie united with producers Rupert Christie and Jon Bishop to record her debut EP, ‘By Your Side’ and is currently working with a record company recording her debut album. You can catch Charlie and her band performing her songs all over the country, so check out her myspace page.
Becky McCracken - Lecturer
Becky has studied voice in both the United States and Europe. Since moving to the UK in 2001, she has performed with several bands in London and also works an experienced session singer, helping various song writers to record and get the best sound on their demo material to send to record companies and labels. Becky is currently one of two lead vocalists in indie/folk band Booth, whose first album will go on sale through iTunes in December 2008. Her main love is jazz, and she occasionally performs jazz standards in London with the Bob Stuckey trio.Becky is also works for Voxbox Vocal Arts in Camden and The Colchester Institute (Essex University). Becky has set up her own company ‘The Voice Shop’, where she is a vocal tutor from her own studio in Queen’s Park, London.
