Guitar Tutors
The following Guitar Tutors are available to you as part of a guitar course at ACM's Guitar School: Pete Friesen, Giorgio Serci, Mike Goodman, Carl Orr, Nicolas Meier, Mike Casswell, James Betteridge, Nat Martin, Tristan Seume, Peter Roth and Jon Bishop. Featured Tutor - PETE FRIESEN
Giorgio Serci - Fellow of ACM
Giorgio was the winner of the International Jazz Award at Sant’ Anna Arresi, in Italy 1999. He studied classical guitar in Italy at “La Nuova Accademia” and Jazz with John Scofield, amongst others. Giorgio then went on to study Jazz, Composition and Music teaching at Goldsmiths College, in London. Giorgio has recorded and performed with the likes of Harvie Swartz, Andy Sheppard, Vic Juris, Antonio Forcione, Denys Baptiste, Shola Ama, Nawal Zoughby, Julian Lloyd Webber and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He has also supported Shirley Bassey at The Royal Festival Hall.
Giorgio has toured in the main jazz festivals and international Guitar festivals world-wide. His recordings include “Lo Scenarios” with Simon Davies, “Loch Ness” with Bob Stuckey, “4 at the Store, BBC Radio” with Boothby Graffoe and his latest “New York Sessions” with Harvie S, Virginia Mayhew and Allison Miller (Naim Label). A great deal of experience is on offer to students on our guitar courses through Giorgio.
Carl Orr - Lecturer
Australian jazz-rock guitarist Carl Orr is one of Europe’s finest with vast experience touring and recording with some of the greatest artists in contemporary music. Artists he has worked with include Billy Cobham, George Duke, Randy Brecker, Ernie Watts, Sean Wayland, Jackie Orszaczky, Dale Barlow and Nathan Haines. Carl, a dedicated practitioner of Nichiren Buddhism, has appeared on many studio sessions, including jazz, pop and funk albums, TV themes and dance tracks. Carl also has seven CDs of his original music to his credit.
Carl’s main influences are Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Jimi Hendrix and Antonio Carlos Jobim. In addition to his commitments as a guitar Tutor on ACM's guitar courses Carl also does lots of performing, mostly live jazz and fusion.
Michael Casswell - Lecturer
Michael studied guitar from the age of 11. At 22, he was signed to RCA America and fronted a band called ‘Heroes’. In the early 90s Michael signed to MCA UK as part of the band ‘Walk on Fire’ and in 1992 joined the Brian May band to tour South America. In the mid '90s he wrote, produced and played on Cozy Powell’s (drummer from Rainbow, Sabbath, Dio etc) last album.From the late 90s onwards, Michael toured and recorded with various artists including Ronan Keating, Rose Royce, Wang Chung, Tony Hadley and Limahl (Kajagoogoo) and also played on many TV ads, jingles and film soundtracks.
Michael has worked on theatre productions including; ‘What a Feeling’ 2001-2, ‘Hollywood and Broadway’ 2003, and on the Queen show ‘We Will Rock You’. Become a student on one of our guitar courses you can learn much from Michael.
Nat Martin - Lecturer
Nat Martin has been playing guitar for 17 years and his primary influences are blues, jazz and funk music. He has gigged extensively with a number of bands as well as playing in the pit for a number of musical theatre productions. As a guitar Tutor Nat mainly teaches in music theory at ACM. He is also a guitar Tutor available for tutorials, as well as teaching on the part time guitar courses.
He is currently recording an album with his own project The Nat Martin Band - due for release later this year (2008) – which is scheduled to include a number of guest vocal appearances!
Fusion outfit Monster Soup which includes Nat can be heard gigging frequently at The Boileroom in Guildford with drum tutor Stu Roberts and monster mates Andy Staples and Rob Webb!
Peter Roth - Lecturer
Pete has worked professionally since 1998 in numerous projects such as backing a major artist in the prime-time TV show “Hitparade der Volksmusik”, to playing in the remake of the song “Do they know its Christmas time” for Capital FM Radio.He has performed with such prestigious International artists like Rosemary Squires (Sammy Davis Jr., Les Paul), The London Gala Orchestra and Sam Flynn (Eurythmics, Steve Wonder) amongst many others.
Pete has worked under the musical direction of Brian Dee (Miles Davis, Fred Astaire, Peggy Lee), Steve Bell (London/Royal Philharmonic, English/Europe Chamber Orchestra, BBC Symphony) and Olivier Award winning Michael Haslam to name a few. Pete also composes with his writing partner Georgie Standage as well as leading his own Jazz outfit “Tritone”. Come and meet Pete on our guitar courses at ACM.
Pete Friesen - Fellow of ACM
Pete has toured the world and recorded with some genuine rock legends. He has been the tour guitarist of choice for Alice Cooper and Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson, and was also a member of The Almighty during the 90’s. The skills he has honed throughout his arena-filling career are brought to bear on ACM's guitar courses in its live performance classes.
Mike Goodman - Senior Lecturer
Mike has been a guitar Tutor for seventeen years at Primary, GCSE, A Level, BTEC Diploma, Higher Diploma and Degree standard. During that time he has consistently gigged and recorded with many artists and producers including; Nate James, Cass Fox and Natascha Sohl. Mike has also written, recorded and produced soundtracks for several television documentaries. Other work includes his regular monthly column which has appeared in Guitarist magazine since 2001. He endorses Randall amplifiers and has demonstrated for Randall, Palm Bay Guitars and Fyled Acoustics.
His speciality, which students on our guitar courses will benefit from, is his ability to communicate complex musical theory in an understandable manner.
Nic Meier - Lecturer
Swiss guitarist Nicolas, now based in London, has toured in Switzerland, Italy and France, having played with such illustrious artists such as; saxophonist Bill Evans, Gilad Atzmon, Dave O’Higgins, pianist Thierry Lang, trompettist Matthieu Michel, guitarist John Etheridge and drummer Asaf Sirkis. Nic’s playing style draws on a number of influences - Jazz, Flamenco, Latin and Middle-Eastern music. He has worked on diverse projects including; the Modern Guitar Orchestra (featuring Vivaldi’s 4 Seasons) for the American classical label Centaur and in a Metal band called Seven. Nicolas has a rare talent in that he is able to play both metal and jazz and has written books on both; ‘Heavy Metal part I, Rhythm Guitar’ and ‘Jazz part I, Chord Tones’. James Betteridge - Lecturer
James is an experienced lecturer and performer. He has been a guitar Tutor privately for a number of years and is a regular contributor to the ACM Part Time Guitar School and also on the Guitar School’s Full Time programmes. He is comfortable as both an electric player as well as an accomplished acoustic guitar player and he performs regularly throughout the country. James can be found teaching on many of ACM's guitar courses.
Tristan Seume - Lecturer
Tristan is one of the UK’s leading acoustic guitarists. Since completing a music degree at Darlington College of Arts, he has been delighting audiences up and down the country with his blend of folk, country and classically-influenced music and with a cheerful stage presence. He is a regular techniques columnist for ‘Guitarist Magazine’ and is the UK demonstrator for endorsee of Guild Guitars. As an experienced guitar Tutor, he has taught at many guitar festivals and acadamies throughout the UK and is now available as a guitar Tutor on ACM's guitar courses.
Jon Bishop - Lecturer
Jon has extensive live experience and is currently touring with 80’s rock ‘n’ roll icon Shakin’ Stevens in shows around the UK and Europe. Jon’s recording credits include work for artists as varied as Gilbert O’Sullivan, Bonnie Tyler, Westlife, Kerry Ellis, Russell Watson, Alexander O’Neil, Hayley Westonra, Coronation Street The Musical and Universal Music’s 50th anniversary recording of the ‘West Side Story’ soundtrack..
Jon received a gold record for his work on The Fisherman’s Friends of Port Issacs’ debut album and the Only Men Aloud album ‘Band of Brothers’ received a Classical Brit award.
TV and Radio sessions include The Glastonbury Festival, This Morning, Dancing On Ice and Friday Night Is Music Night.
Jon has a First Class Honours Degree in Contemporary Music and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from London University. As a guitar Tutor, Jon offers a great deal to students on our guitar courses.
