Why are tuition fees going up?
Simply put, UK Universities will not receive the same levels of funding for each student from the government leaving a shortfall in University budgets to allow their courses to continue.
How much can Universities charge?
The previous system was a combination of a “cap” fee paid by the student with the balance of the course paid by a Government subsidy. As the subsidy has now been removed, Universities now have to charge the full cost of the course which is capped at £9000 per student per year. Following this announcement the majority of Universities stated that they would charge the full £9000 fee.
So what will my ACM course cost?
As a private institution ACM is able to set it’s own fees and is allowed to set these at either above or below the public University maximum of £9000. In considering our fees we have worked closely with our associate Universities (our degree level courses are awarded by Surrey University and Middlesex University) to ensure our fees are competitive and also complement their own fee structures. We have recently published our fees which have been set under the maximum allowable.
In addition to being below the University maximum, for many years ACM has been running Degree courses as condensed two year programmes rather than the traditional three year course. This means that prospective ACM Degree students would only pay two years of tuition fees as well as only two years of living costs. This equates to significant savings.
Yes - as a private institution all ACM’s Higher Diploma and Degree courses are designated for financial support which means that ACM students can borrow up to £6000 towards their course fees.
In addition students can apply for grants and loans to help with their living costs. The amount available is based on means testing (based on your family income and a number of other factors). All financial support is available by students completing an application from the Student Loans Company – www.slc.co.uk
When do I need to start repaying my loan?
Students will begin repaying their student loan once they are in full time employment and earning OVER £21,000 per year. These loan repayments are based on 9% of your salary that is OVER the £21,000 threshold. This is taken out of your wages at source, in a similar way to Income tax and National Insurance payments.
For Example:
If your salary is £25,000 a year you pay 9% of £4,000.
This works out at £6.92 per week
