The Academy of Contemporary Music was first founded in Guildford in the UK in 1995 and is the only music industry school to be replicated in other International territories.
Although ACM UK remains the flagship school, ACM can already be found in the US, South Africa and most recently, India with further expansion plans set to continue around the world.
“At ACM, we believe in training future artists, producers and music business executives for a career in the music industry. We are taking our successful model and replicating it where there is a passion for contemporary music. We are building an international network that benefits all ACM students in multiple ways from exchange programmes to online collaboration and cultural experiences.”
ACM@UCO was founded in 2009 based on a collaboration with The University of Central Oklahoma. The state of the art campus opened in Bricktown, central Oklahoma, after converting a 40k sq ft warehouse and now boasts over 500 students a year.

CEO Scott Booker says the success of the Flaming Lips, was a large reason why Oklahoma City was chosen as the destination for ACM, “It really is because of the success they’ve had on an international level that opened the door for people willing to take a chance on a program like this.”
“I think Oklahoma City is a great environment for people who are serious about doing their music and their art.”

As in the UK, accomplished musicians, production experts, and music business professionals teach students, with a focus on building the careers of talented students through preparation and exposure to the music business.
Students say they feel lucky to be learning from people who have had experience and success in the music industry.
“Prior to this school, most musicians had to figure it out by the seat of their pants, they had nobody guiding them, they’d be lucky if they found somebody who actually made it and get some advice from them, and that was if they were lucky,” says ACM student Ian Roegels.
ACM South Africa
ACM@COPA was founded in 2001 and now teaches over 750 students a year within 4 campuses: Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban.

Trained facilitators who are also music industry specialists and professional musicians, teach the ACM curriculum which give the students one of the most rounded and intensive practical programmes currently available anywhere in the world.
Like every ACM centre, each campus boasts state-of-the-art facilities with a recording studio, a technology centre, a performance venue and practice facilities for use by its students.
“ACM@Copa is our longest standing partnership, working successfully together for over a decade. South Africa is a vibrant musical nation and its cultural mix within the ACM family is very stimulating. We look forward to continuing to expand this relationship and providing even more ACM experiences for students.”
“ACM the market leader in Music Industry Education, it has been an absolute pleasure and honour to be apart of the ACM group for so many years, COPA now has a National Footprint in SA and is just getting started in it’s delivery of world class Music Industry Education programme.”
