Tour Production and Management Tutors
Glen Rowe, Matt Russell, John Armitage, James Dehaan and Pablo McCarte are ACM's tutors in its Tour Production and Management School.
Glen Rowe - Tour Production and Management Tutor
Wanting to be the perfect mix of Keith Moon, John Bonham & Tommy Lee, Glen’s career in rock n’ roll started in punk/hardcore and grunge bands. Glen left Art School to follow his dreams and go on tour. After 9 years of touring Glen set up Cato Music. Realising there was a hole in the market, Glen set to work building the support network for road crew and getting the biggest names in the music industry to let Cato run their endorsement programs for new artists/acts needing help. Adding a hire department, storage, transport and tour spares have made Cato the unique business it is today.
Glen has Tour or Production managed Muse, Hard-Fi, The Streets, Manic Street Preachers, The Thrills, The Zutons and many others.
John Armitage - Tour Production and Management Tutor
On leaving school, John entered the music industry as a backline technician or ‘roadie’. He has toured and recorded consistently with some of the world’s biggest and most commercially successful groups ever since including; George Michael, Kylie Minogue, Iron Maiden, Spice Girls, Take That, Motorhead, The Verve, amongst many others. John is now one of the most renowned and requested guitar technicians in the UK. He is an authority on vintage guitars and maintains private guitar collections for such luminaries as Mick Jagger. He has recently started a small guitar repair business in order to bring stadium standards to the high street.
Paul (Pablo) McCarte - Tour Production and Management Tutor
Pablo grew up in the valleys of South Wales and at 17 started his first Sound System Hire business. It was an experience in preparing for a professional touring career that began in venues such as Barfly. Pablo later became a Systems Technician on much larger systems and started touring in Arenas, Stadiums, Main Stages at Festivals and also touring with bands as a Front of House, Monitor Engineer and on the odd occasion even a Tour Manager. He now has extensive experience in international Touring Logistics, Stage and Production Management.
Pablo has worked with artists including Adele, The Hoosiers, Hard-Fi, The Blackout, Glassjaw, Kids in Glass Houses, You Me At Six, Snow Patrol, Manic Street Preachers and Kaiser Chiefs to name a few. Pablo is still on the road, busier than ever before, and he totally loves it!
When he's not on the road he can also be found at ACM in our Tour Production and Management School.
Matt Russell - Tour Production and Management Tutor
Matthew Russell is not just a “Sideshow Bob” look-a-like…Matthew was taught piano and guitar from a young age and has played in bands all his life, until he realised it's a young man's game!!!
On leaving school Matt studied Acoustics and Electrical Engineering at Salford University and received a BEng (hons) in 1992.
After a brief stint as an acoustic consultant Matt worked as a sound engineer in Birmingham before moving to London where he worked at the famous Depot Studios at the height of the brit pop era, and worked with many famous names, like: BLUR, PULP, OASIS, ELASTICA, SUPERGRASS, ROBERT PLANT. To name but a few…
He then moved on to Sensible Music first as technical supervisor, before becoming general manager of the company. Matt then moved on again to work as the Rental manager at John Henrys. All the time Matt was playing in bands, recording and playing live. Matt currently is the General Manager of Cato Music, a one-stop tour production company in South West London.
Matthew's technical knowledge is second to none… if you don’t understand some thing “ask Matt”.
Matt can also be found at ACM's Tour Production and Management School.
James Dehaan - Tour Production and Management Tutor
James was born in Sri Lanka under a tea bush on the 3rd day of the 4th month in 57th year. He was then thrown into a boarding school in England and left to come up with some bright ideas, didn’t happen, so he became a drummer. The bands that he could of joined should have been Rock bands or Pop bands or even Punk bands, but no, he joined a Jazz Rock band and yes no one ever comes to see a Jazz Rock band that are playing in the local, he then left the band.
James then moved to London and found the world of music. He played in many bands and made many friends, thank God for the Melody Maker.
After a few years in this crazy city he found a job in a rehearsal studio that also provided backline for the musicians, where he learnt the dark arts. This let him work with: Iggy Pop, Bluetones, La Roux, Mika, Frank Musik, Kooks, Dark Star, Led Zeppelin, Motorhead (could not hear for a week)
There are many many more, but like Jazz Rock, sleep would come to you oh so soon. So James now tries to help others on the road and will lend a spanner or two. He specialises in drums but really can do it all. James lives with his wife and new son in London. Come and talk to James at ACM's Tour Production and Management School.
'Life is good' James says, 'you just have to be around long enough to find out'.
