Charming Thieves

The ACM Songwriting Competition 2010 saw some of the Academy's brightest stars take to the stage and perform original material in front of a capacity audience at Guildford's leading creative arts venue, The Boileroom.

Winning the competition was ACM degree student Tommy Monroe and his band The Charming Thieves, with an acoustic version of a song entitled 'Control' which fought off 200 other entries to claim the prize. Chosen by Rich Holley of Peer Music Publishing, the band netted £500 of music store vouchers and a 2 day recording session at Matrix Studios in London. Rich said, "It was a tough decision as as there are some fantastic acts here tonight."

In addition to the event, songwriters across the UK will soon benefit from a brand new Songwriting course due to commence this September. Run as a part time Industry Qualification, the course will serve as a gateway for artists and writers wishing to develop their writing technique, offering yet another way of building a career within today's thriving music industry.
